In this first chapter, I wanna share about everyday english conversation in the air travel.
Hope it could help you to learn more about english, and increase your skill in english conversation.
Taking the Plane
Get on the plane : naik ke pesawat
Look for my seat : mencari tempat duduk saya
Fasten my seat belt : mengenakan sabuk pengaman
The plane takes off : pesawat lepas landas
The plane flies : pesawat terbang
The plane lands : pesawat mendarat
Unfasten my seat belt : melepaskan sabuk pengaman saya
Get off the plane : turun dari pesawat
Looking For the Check-in Desk
A : Excuse me, where's the check-in counter for Garuda Airlines? (Permisi, di mana tempat pengecekan tiket untuk Garuda Airlines?
B : That's in Terminal 2. This is Terminal 1. ( Terminal 2. Ini adalah Terminal 1)
A : Is there a shuttle bus that goes between terminals? (Apakah ada bus yang beroperasi antar terminal?)
B : Yes, there's one right in front of here. (Ya, ada satu persis di depan sini)
A : Next to the taxi stand? (Di sebelah tempat pemberhentian taxi ?)
B : Yes, that's right. (Ya, benar.)
Telling Someone About a Problem
I missed my flight : saya ketinggalan pesawat
I lost my wallet : saya kehilangan dompet saya
My flight has been delayed for four hours : Penerbangan saya telah tertunda selama empat jam
Is there a public phone here? My mobile phone isn't working : Apakah ada telepon umum di sini? Telepon genggam saya mati.
Checking In
A : Can I see your ticket and passport, please ? (Dapatkah saya melihat tiket dan paspor anda?)
B : Here they are. Can I get one seat near the aisle? (Silahkan. Bolehkah saya minta tempat duduk dekat lorong?)
A : Yes, that's no problem. You're in seat 17B. (Ya, tidak masalah. Tempat duduk anda di 17B.)
B : Thanks. Where do I go next? ( Terimakasih. Selanjutnya saya harus ke mana?)
A : Go to Gate 4, straight ahead, then turn left. (Silahkan ke Pintu 4, lurus saja lalu belok kiri.)
Baggage Check-in
A : Hello. Where are you flying today? (Halo. Ke mana penerbangan anda hari ini?)
B : Hi, I'm flying to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. (Hai, saya akan terbang ke Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.)
A : OK, and is all this luggage yours? (Oke, dan apakah semua koper ini milikmu?)
B : These two bags are mine. (Kedua tas ini adalah milik saya.)
A : All right. One of your bags is overweight. I'm going to have to charge you for the excess weight. ( Baiklah. Salah satu dari tas anda kelebihan berat. Saya harus mengenakan biaya untuk kelebihan berat bagasi ini.)
B : I see. How much extra do I have to pay? ( Saya mengerti. Berapa biaya tambahan yang harus saya bayar?
A : $20 dollars, Sir. (Dua puluh dolar, Pak.)
Where's the Gate?
A : Excuse me. Where's the gate? (Permisi. Di mana pintunya?)
B : Right over there. (Di sebelah sana.)
A : Thank you. (Terima kasih.)

On The Airplane
A : Excuse me, could you help me put this bag in the overhead compartment? (Maaf, bisakah anda membantu saya meletakkan tas ini di kompartemen atas?)
B : Sure. There you go. (Tentu saja. Ya tasnya sudah masuk.)
A : Thank you. Would it be possible to switch / change seats with someone? My wife and I would like to sit together. ( Terima kasih. Apakah mungkin untuk bertukar tempat duduk dengan seseorang? Saya dan istri saya ingin duduk bersebelahan.)
B : Certainly, sir. For now, please take your seta, and once the plane takes off, I'll help you with that. (Tentu saja Pak. Sementara ini, silahkan duduk di tempat duduk anda terlebih dahulu, dan setelah pesawat lepas landas, saya akan membantu anda.)
On Board Services (1)
A : Would you like something to drink? (Apakah anda ingin minum sesuatu?)
B : Could I have a cup of tea with no sugar,please? (Bolehkah saya minta secangkir teh tanpa gula?)
A : Here you are. ( Ini (teh-nya). )
Please fill out this form before the plane lands. (Silahkan isi formulir ini sebelum pesawat mendarat.)
B : What is this form for? (Formulir ini untuk apa?)
A : It's a customs and immigration form. ( Ini adalah formulir bea cukai dan imigrasi.)
You will use that in the airport before you can enter the country. (Anda akan memerlukannya di bandara sebelum anda memasuki negara ini.)
On Board Services (2)
A : Could I get today's newspaper? ( Bisakah saya minta koran hari ini?)
B : Certainly, sir. ( Tentu saja, Pak.)
* Language Pattern:
These headphones don't work. Could I get new ones? (Headphone ini rusak. Dapatkah saya minta yang baru?)
Could I get another blanket, please? I'm a little cold. (Dapatkah saya minta tambahan selimut? Saya agak kedinginan.
I'm thirsty. Could I get some water? (Saya haus. Bisa kah saya minta air putih?)
Could I get a pen to fill out this form? (Dapatkah saya minta pulpen untuk mengisi formulir ini)
This seat won't fold back. Could you help me? (Kursi ini tidak bisa disandarkan. Dapatkah anda membantu saya?)
The Arrival
A : Thank you for flying with Garuda Airlines. (Terimakasih telah terbang bersama Garuda Airlines.)
B : I had a good trip. Thans for your help. ( Saya menikmati perjalanannya. Terimakasih atas bantuannya.)
A : It was our pleasure and we hope to see you again. (Ini adalah tugas kami dan kami berharap dapat berjumpa dengan anda kembali.
Getting Through Customs (1)
A: Welcome to the US. May I see your passport please? (Selamat databg di Amerika Serikat. Bolehkah saya melihat paspor anda?
B : Sure. Here it is. (Tentu saja. Ini paspor saya.)
A : Where are you coming from? (Anda berasal dari mana?)
B : I'm coming from Jakarta, Indonesia. ( Saya berasal dari Jakarta, Indonesia.)
A : What is the purpose of your visit? (Apa tujuan dari kunjungan anda?)
B : I'm here on business. (Saya ke sini untuk urusan bisnis.)
A : How long are planninh to stay? (Berapa lama anda berencana untuk tinggal?)
B : I'll be staying for two weeks. (Saya akan tinggal selama dua minggu.)
Getting Through Customs (2)
A : Where will you be staying? ( Di mana anda akan tinggal?)
B : I'll be staying at a hotel. (Saya akan tinggal di hotel.)
A : Have you ever been to US before? (Apakah anda sudah pernah berkunjung ke Amerika Serikat sebelumnya?)
B : No, this is my first time. (Belum, ini adalah kunjungan pertama saya.)
A : Do you have anything to declare? (Apakah ada barang anda yang perlu dilaporkan?)
B : No, nothing. (Tidak, tidak ada.)
A : Enjoy your stay. (Selamat menikmati kunjungan anda.)
B : Thank You. (Terima kasih.)
Getting The Luggage
A : At which carrousel will our luggage be? ( Di konveyor yang mana koper kami akan keluar?)
B : At number 2, over there. (Di nomor 2, sebelah sana.)
A : Great! I'll get a cart right away. (Bagus! Saya akan segera mengambil kereta dorong (troly) )
B : Be sure you have your luggage ticket. (Pastikan anda pegang tanda pengambilan bagasi anda.)
A : Yes, It's right here attached to my plane ticket. ( Ya. Ada di sini tertempel di tiket pesawat saya.)
Others Language Patterns
1. Purpose to visit
A : What's the purpose of your visit? (Apa tujuan kunjungan anda?)
B : I'm going to visit my brother. He lives in New York. (Saya akan mengunjungi kakak saya. Dia tinggal di New York.
I'm here on vacation. (Saya ke sini untuk berlibur)
I'm here on business. (saya ke sini untuk urusan bisnis)
2. Length of stay
A : How long do you plan to stay in Australia? ( Berapa lama anda berencana untuk tinggal di Australia?
B : About two weeks. (Sekitar satu minggu.)
I'll be staying for three weeks. (Saya akan tinggal selama tiga minggu.)
3. Been here before
A : Have you ever been here before? (Apakah anda pernah ke sini sebelumnya?)
B : Yes, I was here for about two weeks last year. (ya, saya berada di sini sekitar dua minggu tahun lalu.)
No, this is my firts time. (Belum, ini adalah kunjungan pertama saya.)
4. Travelling alone or with company
A : Are you travelling alone? (Apakah anda berpergian sendiri?)
B : No, I'm travelling with my wife and two daughters. (Tidak, saya bepergian dengan istri dan dua putri saya.)
Yes, I am. (Ya, saya berpergian sendirian.)
5. Things to declare
A : Do you have anything to declare? (Apakah ada barang yang harus dilaporkan?)
B : No, nothing. (Tidak, tidak ada.)
6. Job
A : What's your line of work? (Apakah bidang pekerjaan anda?)
B : I'm a wrritter. (Aku adalah seorang penulis.)
A : What do you do? ( Apa pekerjaan anda?)
B : Oh, I'm a teacher. I teach English. (Oh, saya adalah seorang guru. Saya mengajar Bahasa Inggris.)
